In short, it’s a crowdfunding platform that allows entrepreneurs and artisans to “kickstart” their ideas into real businesses by pre-selling a finished product before the business actually fully exists. Why is that unique? Because it allows a business to lead with revenue, rather than investing in an idea before the market has actually been “tested” for genuine interest in the idea or product. Pre-selling allows an entrepreneur to say to the world “if you’ll pay for it, I’ll build it”. It really is a great way to build a business, and it is largely responsible for Beto’s success to date.

Moving our vision forward.

For Beto’s Coffee Co., we operated for nearly 2 years out of the back of our coffee shop in Masatepe, Nicaragua, before deciding to step out into the global marketplace. Although we had a fully functional small and local business, we did not yet have a global, e-commerce business, so we decided to use the Kickstarter platform to launch us into a whole new stratosphere. And it worked! We were able to raise over $30,000 on our first Kickstarter attempt, which not only allowed us to invest in growing our business, but it also connected us to the rest of the world. The doors that opened as a result of our Kickstarter campaign were arguably more valuable than the actual funds we raised!
